Special Points of Interest:

MAPS TESTING

The entire school is doing MAPS testing this year, the purpose is to help us monitor where specifically students need interventions.

Students will take this test with IEP accommodations that are allowed to keep the test valid. Results will be included in my benchmarking, to guide specific intervention tools that need to be used.

POINT SHEETS

These are a work in progress, Ms. Rose is training staff next week. Let me know if there is anything vital missing. 

ASSESSMENTS

                At the beginning of the year assessments are given by Ms. Rose to assess where the students are in alignment with their goals. These take several weeks to complete and I hope to have a summary to you for conferences.

HOMEWORK

 Please initial assignment notebooks when students complete their reading etc, at home. Ms. Rose is giving additional stickers for completed hw.

Remember homework is based on individual family and student need, let us know if something is not working out. 

 

TRAININGS

                As always trainings will be done on an ongoing basis throughout the school year. If you would like us to collaborate with an outside therapist, please make sure we have a consent form to communicate with them and their information.

       I am looking forward to learning more in the areas of vision, executive functioning, and social skills this year and sharing this information with staff.

Maps Testing

Ms. Rose's Students will participate in the whole school MAPS testing

Students will take this district wide assessment with their accommodations.

The purpose of the testing is to identify specific areas of weakness and strength to help us further differentiate instruction for students.

SCHEDULES

Schedules have been sent home but they will be update next week, as changes need to be made and specials were changed this week. No major changes should occur. A new schedule will be sent home each time schedules are updated.



NOTES HOME

There are always several items that need to be taken care of at the beginning of the year, new tools we need, new trainings, new meetings to set up. I am putting all of this together and am looking forward to a great school year.

August 27, 2010 WELCOME BACK!

Great to Be Back

Everyone has had a great week back! Students are having fun getting to know their new teachers, and staff members. Everyone has learned all about how to be safe in our building, and the school and classroom rules.

• AUTHOR VISIT:  
• Rebecca Rissman, Heinemannraintree Publishing, Acorn Book Series
• The Author Rebecca Rissman, who writes stories for children about inclusion and children with differences, is coming to talk to Ms. Rose's classroom Monday afternoon from 1:00-1:30, she is going to talk to them about being an author and find out what they like to read about. 
• Ms. Rose has many of her books including We All Read, We All Communicate, and several others, I read them to classrooms when I come to take about appreciating everyone's differences. 
• We are very excited that she will be in town and able to visit our classroom.

• PERMISSION SLIPS
• I am sending  home  a AUTHOR VISIT  permission slip for Monday video/ picture permission slips, consent forms (to talk to outside services), and script forms (if needed). 
• Please return ASAP.
• NEXT WEEK
•  A rough draft schedule will come home on Monday, and will be specifically adjusted once teachers have their final schedules completed. 
• I will be collecting baseline data on students goals, and core skills to see where students are at and what specific areas they need more or less intervention.
